Alexander Menzel, Development Team Member, Daimler AG
be future-oriented, be passionate, be berlin
"Engineering is my passion. The foundation for this enthusiasm was laid by my father, who was an engineer with all of his heart and soul. As a child, we would often tinker together on technical apparatuses. In 2002, after training to be an auto mechanic and later becoming a master mechanic, I started working for Mercedes-Benz in Berlin. In addition to engines, we also manufacture modern components and parts that are produced using environmentally friendly technologies. The special thing about the Mercedes-Benz facility in Berlin is its in-house development department. We don’t just produce engine components here; we also develop and test them too. If you’re in development, you have to be creative, innovative and future-oriented – that’s what makes the job so exciting. Here, you’re always working on the absolute latest in technology, and what we produce has a direct effect on the environment. But what makes our facility so special is the flexibility with which we react to new challenges. Theory and practice are very closely linked here. This fact is reflected in the quality of our products and the motivation of our employees. And these are ideal conditions for carrying out our latest project – the production of an electric motor for hybrid engines – starting in 2012."
