Aurélie Bocquel – Head of Plant and Systems Engineering, GE Energy
be powerful , be efficient , be berlin
I’ve loved math and physics ever since I was a kid – and I’m still just as fascinated by these two subjects today. After receiving my double degree in electrical engineering from the Technische Hochschule Karlsruhe and ENSIEG in Grenoble, France, GE Energy offered me a position in the company’s development department. My very first project was already a huge challenge. My task was to develop a regulative concept for one of the world’s largest power converters for a pumped storage power plant. When it actually began operations, it was such a thrill for me and gave me tremendous motivation for my further work. It’s always very exciting to see my ideas put into practice and how theoretical concepts lead to the development and building of huge power plants. Even without the help of a so-called “women’s quota,” GE Energy entrusted me with a key position as head of “Plant and Systems Engineering.” As a French woman and an enthusiastic advocate of European unity, I really enjoy working here together with colleagues from a wide range of nationalities and backgrounds. This variety is also exactly what makes Berlin so special for me. The city is just as colorful as the people who live here – especially in terms of its culture, landscape and culinary offerings. And Berlin’s travel connections are so good that I can go out and discover the big wide world whenever I want.
